Baby, It's Cold Outside!

We are freezing to death, here in the Pacific Northwest. I don't usually see hoarfrost on this side of the mountains, but man, it's sticking up at least an inch right now. The one great advantage to this is that the little Furry Beast can be outside as long as he wants to without getting hideously muddy - hoorah! It's also been sunny instead of drizzly, so, really, I shouldn't be complaining at all. And it makes for much better collies-playing-in-the-field photo opportunities. So, this is pretty much what our New Year's Eve and New Year's Day looked like:

C'mon! You know you want to play!

Who, me? Come? What's that?

These two are a little older, but they are too fun. And they show you how badly I needed to sweep; maybe it'll shame me into doing a better job of it . . .

  1. Love the floor. And the last photo ~ too cute. What is hoarfrost? It sounds very intense!

  2. My poor floor - when it gets bad (Collie Cloud season) I just think of how much uglier it would be if it were carpeted.

    Hoarfrost looks like this:

(Hopefully that address actually works). There's a really nice science-y definition of hoarfrost, but basically it's just gigantic ice crystals that form instead of the usual tiny ones. I think it's got something to do with objects getting colder than the air when there's lots of moisture in the air . . . probably.

  5. Jolene, I think I'll quit complaining about our 15-20 degrees . . . although now we've warmed up to almost 40 (woohoo?) and we're back to our usual winter drizzle (yucky, wet collies - oh, goody).
And I do love how pretty hoarfrost is!

  7. Hi Diane! Thanks for posting. Your Duffy is adorable! I saw from your profile page that you're a professor (I'm a private teacher - education is awesome!) - what do you teach?
Oh, and Flynn is definitely just as interested in the girls as his namesake!
